Police and gendarmerie cracked down on 377 drug-related crimes in June, a decrease of 46 cases from May.

Interior Minister Sar Kheng urged authorities to redouble their efforts, saying the use and trafficking of illegal drugs persisted in the country.

Of the 377 cases, 354 were quelled by police and the rest by military police, according to its official Facebook page.

“A total of 807 suspects were arrested in June, down from 914 in May. Of these, 584 were traffickers, 214 were drug users and nine were manufacturers, ”the post said.

The minister asked the authorities at all levels to also deploy their efforts in other areas such as education, dissemination of information, prevention and rejection of drugs in the community through the media and networks. social so that millions of participants can be informed about the dangers of drugs.

Deputy head of the national police force responsible for combating drugs, Mak Chito, said on July 7 that the confiscated drugs would be destroyed.

In Phnom Penh, police confiscated eight tons of drugs, while Tbong Khmum province destroyed drugs on July 6. Other provinces followed suit.

Chito said the National Drug Enforcement Authority collects and destroys drugs after failing to do so on the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking on June 26.

“We will, because the committee is now collecting it. We will organize a destruction ceremony which will take place in front of the courts of appeal of Phnom Penh and the provinces of Preah Sihanouk, Battambang and Tbong Khmum ”, he declared.
